Level: Some yoga or movement experience is recommended, but no inversion experience is required.
Inversions are often seen as big shapes to achieve: handstands, forearm stands, headstands, arm balances. In this workshop, we will approach them differently. Before going upside down, we will learn how to prepare the body, understand the foundations, and develop the awareness needed to move with more control, confidence, and safety.
The focus will be on drills that help you feel your body before you invert. We will work with tightness drills, body-line drills, shoulder and core activation, and simple exercises that teach you how to organize your body in space. Instead of rushing into the final shape, we will explore the ingredients that make inversions feel lighter, clearer, and more accessible.
A big part of the practice will be learning how to isolate and coordinate different parts of the body. We will explore the relationship between foundation and action: how the hands press, how the shoulders support, how the core connects, how the legs create direction, and how the whole body can work together as one integrated system.
We will also explore safe and intelligent ways to assist each other in inversion work. You will learn how to support a friend without forcing, how to give useful feedback, and how to create a safe environment where people can explore being upside down with more trust and ease.
This workshop is playful, technical, and progressive. You will not be asked to “perform” inversions. You will be guided through layers of preparation, awareness, and practice so you can understand what your body needs and how to build from there.
In this practice you will explore:
• Drills to prepare the body before going upside down
• Tightness drills and body-line awareness for inversions
• Hands, wrists, shoulders, core, and legs as the foundations of inverted shapes
• Body isolation and coordination: learning what each part of the body is doing
• The connection between foundation and action
• Simple ways to enter and exit inversion work with more control
• How to assist and support others safely during inversion practice
• Playful, progressive tools for developing confidence upside down
For who:
• Yoga practitioners curious about inversions
• Movers who want to understand their body more clearly before going upside down
• Teachers who want practical drills and tools to support their students
• Dancers, performers, and movement lovers looking for more control and body awareness
• Anyone who wants to explore inversions in a safe, playful, and intelligent way
Attending John's workshop was such a refreshing and enjoyable experience. His ability to make complex movements feel approachable and fun really stood out. The space he creates allows you to explore AcroYoga at your own pace while feeling supported and connected with others. I left the workshop feeling uplifted, energized, and excited to continue my practice!
