This workshop integrates core principles of the Isadora Duncan technique with selected historical repertory and creative movement exploration. You will investigate how Duncan's ideas continue to influence modern and contemporary dance, and how her work can be meaningfully reinterpreted through personal expression and collective movement.
The foundational elements of the Duncan technique are explored through guided movement exploration, improvisation, and work with selected excerpts and themes from Duncan's dramatic and heroic repertory. Music, rhythm, phrasing, and dynamics become tools for personal movement choices. Emotion and inner experience become sources of expression. And moving in relationship with others becomes a practice of communication, connection, and community.
The tone throughout is playful, exploratory, and supportive — a space to experiment, take creative risks, and discover what these principles mean in your own body.
In this practice you will explore:
• Movement initiated from the solar plexus, inspired by the rhythms of nature
• Selected themes and excerpts from Isadora Duncan's dramatic and heroic repertory
• Music, rhythm, and dynamics as tools for personal expression
• Body, space, time, and force as foundations of creative movement
For who:
• Anyone curious about the roots of modern and contemporary dance
• Movers interested in expressive, emotionally sourced movement
• Open to all, no prior experience with Duncan technique required
