This practice explores movement inspired by Chinese martial arts, adapted for dancers and movers who want to expand their physical vocabulary. Through martial principles and exploratory drills, you will discover new ways of generating power, precision, and flow.
The session combines breathwork, spatial awareness, explosive dynamics, grounded strength, and improvisational tools drawn from Gong Fu training. Rather than focusing on fighting techniques, the practice translates martial clarity and internal power into expressive movement.
The term “Gong Fu” refers to skill cultivated through dedication and consistent practice. This session invites you to refine your physical presence, sharpen your intention, and explore the relationship between structure and freedom in movement.
In this practice you will explore:
• Martial principles applied to expressive movement
• Breath, timing, and spatial awareness
• Explosive dynamics and grounded power
• New pathways between discipline, creativity, and flow
For who:
• Movers curious about combining martial arts and expressive movement
• Dancers or practitioners wanting to expand their movement vocabulary
• Anyone interested in exploring power, flow, and improvisation
Challenging workshop for all levels in which there is attention for both the group as the individual
Jonathan Vermeiren - Dancer, Mimer, Mover
Learning Kung Fu through thoughtful attention to body mechanics and load is genuinely refreshing. Dan’s classes are demanding, yet properly grounded in how bodies adapt. It’s rewarding to train and progress in a group environment that truly values shared life-long practice and community.
Ken Ijumba - Doctor
Dan manages to make his classes extremely accessible and approachable for an absolute beginner, while still providing obviously expert coaching. Had lots of fun, and was also amazed by the discipline and strength of the sport and 100% would do again!
Sati Sowa - Psychology Student
The Gong fu Movement sessions are a great way to get into the body for every type of mover. As a teacher, Dan creates a professional environment that feels safe yet playful
Marije Heida - Dancer, Teacher, Maker
